Early History of Cuban Cadets at The Citadel

Recruitment

The Citadel's April 20, 1904 Board of Visitor meeting minutes state: "The subject of printing in Spanish the book of information issued by the Academy was discussed and it was finally decided to print ---- copies in Spanish to be bound with those in English."

A recruitment document found in the Asbury Coward Collection in The Citadel Archives, pictured below, states that The Citadel: "Abre sus puertas a miembros de la raza blanca de las islas de Cuba y Puerto Rico sin distinción de su nacionalidad" which translates to: "Opens its doors to members of the white race from the islands of Cuba and Puerto Rico without distinction of their nationality."
