Library Policies

Circulation Policies

Anyone may use Daniel Library resources in house, including:

  • Circulating books
  • Government documents
  • Reference materials
  • Course Reserves
  • Microfilm and microfiche
  • Periodicals

The following may borrow circulating materials from the Daniel Library:

  • Citadel students, faculty, retired faculty, staff, members of Daniel Library Friends.
  • Dependents of Citadel faculty and staff (with a valid ID obtained through Human Resources).
  • Students, faculty, and staff of other Charleston Academic Libraries Consortium (CALC) institutions: College of Charleston; Charleston Southern; MUSC; South Carolina Marine Resources; Trident Technical College; Charleston School of Law. Students, faculty, and staff of other Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL) institutions. Students, faculty, and staff of the American College of the Building Arts (ACBA).
  • Others, through special arrangement with the Library Director. Please contact the Information Desk for details.

TO CHECK OUT: In MILLENNIUM, scroll down the left hand side, and click on the INN-Reach button. Click Visitor Checkout. Select the Institution. Enter the student ID#. If the student doesn't have the ID#, we cannot check anything out to them, and if there is a problem with their account, we cannot do anything about it, except maybe call their library. 

Confidentiality of library users' records

Daniel Library adheres to Title 60, Chapter 4 (Sec. 60-4-10), S.C. Code 1976, which provides that the records of library materials cannot be disclosed by the library to anyone except: (1) persons acting within the scope of their duties in the administration of the library or library system; (2) persons authorized, in writing, by the library patron to inspect his records; or (3) in accordance with proper judicial order. 


  • Citadel users must have a current, valid ID to check out material, including print reserves.
  • Current Citadel employees and currently enrolled students may acquire IDs from the One Card office in Bond Hall 244.
  • CALC, PASCAL, and ACBA users must present their institution's current ID.
  • All other library users who qualify to borrow material may acquire library cards from Information Desk staff.

Items which are NOT circulated:

  • Rare books
  • Reference materials
  • Microfilm and microfiche
  • Newspapers

Note: Audio-visual items circulate to Citadel students, faculty (including emeriti faculty), staff, and PASCAL-affiliated colleges and universities.
