Daniel Library Covid-19 Operational Guidelines 2020-2021

  • There are no onsite services for the general public at this time. Citadel students, staff, and faculty have access.
  • The facility is open to support access to materials, independent study, and to provide limited meeting space. Multiuser projects must follow the library’s Pandemic Safety Policy and/or use digital conference technology.
  • Patrons have access to all general use spaces in the facility, including all general stacks, with the noted exception of the Archives & Museum (see below).
  • The Citadel Archives & Museum remains closed and will not open regularly until further notice. We will support some limited use by appointment only. Instruction using The Citadel Archives & Museum materials will be done primarily online. We will make selected materials available for individual consultation with patrons after the online instruction has taken place.
  • Cadet library instruction will take place online by default. If there is a strong pedagogical reasons to offer it in-person we can, although we anticipate almost all, if not all of our library instruction program will be online.
  • Seating capacity throughout the facility has been reduced to approximately 160 seats. Maximum total capacity for the Daniel Library is 250 patrons. These numbers will be monitored in real time.
  • Service locations have plexiglass guards in place. Please only approach service areas protected in this way.
  • Face coverings are required while in the library. They are not required in personal offices.
  • Furniture may not be moved or reconfigured.
  • Collaborative (Study) rooms are available for use, although at limited capacity. Capacity is noted on the door to each collaborative room.
  • We will push most of our reference support to our virtual service desk as much as possible, to include most patrons requesting help in-building. Longer consultations may be requested and conducted via digital conference technology.
  • Custodial services are being expanded. There will be a member of the Budd Group present to clean & disinfect common use areas throughout the day.
  • Please make use of any disinfecting and/or sanitation materials as needed.
  • Equipment loans for certain items are suspended until further notice, specifically any items that involve patron use around the head and face area. Examples are headphones, covers, microphones, virtual reality headsets, etc.
  • All returned physical materials will be placed in quarantine for 48 hours. The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) recommends a 24 to 48-hour quarantine of returned books as the safest and most effective way to disinfect them.
