Padgett-Thomas Barracks, originally known as the Main Barracks, was the first building completed on The Citadel’s campus along the Ashley River. The college moved to that location in 1922, having previously been located in Charleston’s Marion Square. This piece was salvaged from the original building upon the demolition and rebuilding of the barracks in 2004.
Lockwood, Greene & Company of Atlanta, Georgia supervised the construction of the new campus buildings and engaged several partners, including The Charleston Engineering and Contracting Company.
