James O. Rigney, Jr. (October 17, 1948 - September 16, 2007)
James Oliver Rigney, Jr. wrote under the pseudonym, Robert Jordan. After serving two tours in Vietnam, Rigney entered The Citadel where he majored in physics. After graduation in 1974, he was employed by the United States Navy as a nuclear engineer. Rigney began writing in 1977 and his most notable work is The Wheel of Times Fantasy series. He also wrote under the pseudonyms Reagan O'Neill and Jackson O'Reilly. Rigney is considered one of the greatest fantasy writers of all time.
